Biographies
A biography is a series of events that make up a person’s life. A biography can be of a historical nature created through archival research or a biography can be created through a series of interviews with the individual and, if possible, with other people who know the subject. The biography is essentially the story of a person from another’s perspective and is often used as a stand-alone book, as part of a presentation, in an exhibition or on a website.
Memoirs
A memoir differs from a biography in that it is told from personal experience, a remembrance by someone of a particular time in life. Clients frequently wish for a memoir to record the memories of a loved one – a father or mother, grandparent or family friend – who holds in their mind a complete history of the entire family or a special time or historic event. The desire is to find a way to get it down permanently before it is gone. Our memoirs are created from a series of recorded interviews with the subject or subjects, which are then shaped into a highly readable form and digitalized for distribution now and for generations to come.
Novel Editing
Novel editing requires the ability to stand back and see the big picture of the story, while at the same time being able to focus in on the small details such as the structure of each sentence and the use of each word. Sue Ronson finds herself to be a bit of an expert in editing novels. Not because she has published dozens of novels, instead because she is in the final stages of writing the same one that she has been working on, draft after draft, for five years.
Script Editing
Script writing is simply another genre of writing and therefore many of the principles of other types of writing apply here. The major differences in script writing are a unique format, killer dialogue, multi-dimensional characters and a storyline that grips and releases the viewer/reader from beginning to end. A good script editor must know these basic rules in order to guide the script writing process.
Travel Writing
Travel writing is a specialized niche. More than any other type of writing it requires the ability to paint pictures and create emotions with words. As travel writers, we are in the business of selling our readers an enjoyable, exciting and compelling experience that leaves them wanting more. Much of our travel writing is about vacation and adventure destinations, but also has a real estate component presented as a secondary factor.
Video Script Writing
It has been our great pleasure to be part of the scriptwriting process for a wide variety of short videos. Using our video scripts and the creative services of Trevor Johnston and Jonathan Mentzos at Thought Shop Creative we can offer a complete package. We have enjoyed each and every subject we have written about and each person we have interviewed on-and off-camera and our hearts are always most touched when we can use our words to contribute to a worthy cause. Such is the case with the following video we wrote for the BC Council for Families:
